Borussia Dortmund’s Bezirksliga women’s football team have won their game away to VfL Senden 4-0 (3-0). Marie Grothe contributed two goals and an assist in a comfortable win.
Even though the championship has long since been won, the BVB women are showing no signs of deviating from their winning ways at all. Sulewski’s charges racked up their 21st consecutive win this season at VfL Senden.
The hosts from Münsterland made a courageous start but did not cause the Black & Yellows any major headaches. With 11 minutes on the clock Marie Grothe played the ball into the path of Mandy Reinhardt, who lobbed Senden keeper Celine Sprengart from 25 metres to make it 1-0. A further 11 minutes later, Dortmund’s top scorers reversed roles. Reinhardt set up Grothe in the penalty area, who kept her cool in front of goal and calmly slotted home for 2-0.
Ann-Katrin Lau almost made it 3-0 in the 35th minute but could not beat Sprengart. But the resultant corner from Virginia Glänzer landed in the net, with the ball deflecting off Senden player Sophie-Marie Schulz’s back and over the line. “We had a super attitude, showed character and were very enthusiastic,” said coach Thomas Sulewski of the first half.
The champions initially switched into game management mode in the second period and slightly lacked the absolute desire to score further goals. A flash of inspiration from Mia Macarena Bedarf brought about the next goal in the 63rd minute. Her through-ball in behind the defence was lobbed home by Marie Grothe for 4-0 – the midfielder’s 23rd goal of the season.
After the five substitutions, the Black & Yellows increasingly lost their flow and the defence was put to the test in the closing stages. Virginia Glänzer blocked on the line (82) and then Sandra Schröer saved the last shot of the match to keep it at 4-0 (90). “The changes caused a disruption to the game, but we still believe we are very well prepared for the upcoming challenges,” said Sulewski.
