The BVB women lost the second friendly of pre-season 2-1 (2-0) to Regionalliga outfit Alemannia Aachen. Following a good second half, BVB new signing Danelle Tan headed home from a corner to reduce the deficit to 2-1.

The Black & Yellows lined up in a 4-1-4-1 formation for their second pre-season friendly against Regionalliga outfit Alemannia Aachen at the Tivoli in Aachen. The home team showed their footballing ability from the beginning and made the game difficult for the BVB women. Jasmin Steffens opened the scoring at 1-0 for the home side in the fifth minute. Mandy Reinhardt almost managed to level the scores in the 10th minute but was unsuccessful. Instead, it was Aachen who extended their lead to 2-0 through Narjiss Ahamad (24) and continued to cause the Black & Yellows difficulties. A shot at goal from Ann-Kathrin Lau then landed in the hands of the Aachen goalie (27), and so the BVB women went in at the interval 2-0 down.

BVB coach Thomas Sulewski made eight substitutions ahead of the second period – with the injury-enforced change of goalkeeper Lena Kölmel, who had only come on after half an hour, among them. Substitute shot-stopper Katharina Jäger ensured that Dortmund conceded no further goals. The BVB women grew more courageous and created more changes for themselves, one of which led to a goal being pulled back: a Vanessa Kuhl corner teed up Danelle Tan, who headed home for 2-1 (85).

“It was a good game against a good opponent at a nice stadium. We struggled to get into it in the first half and had a few problems with long balls. The goals we conceded were down to two individual errors from us. That does happen in pre-season. All in all, it was a very good friendly,” said Thomas Sulewski in summary of his team’s performance.

The BVB women’s pre-season will continue with a day tournament on Poel Island on Saturday 5 August.
