The day after the last game of the season, the team said goodbye to Raphael Guerreiro, Felix Passlack, Mo Dahoud, Anthony Modeste and Luca Unbehaun, who are leaving Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season.
Raphael Guerreiro wore the Black and Yellow shirt for seven years. “The memories I have made here have taught me a lot about myself on the pitch, but also helped me to understand what I really love about football. I will never forget the feeling of playing for this club and defending the colours of BVB!” wrote the left-back on Instagram. Fresh off his success with Portugal at Euro 2016, he had come to Dortmund in the summer of 2016 and immediately impressed as a strong and technically gifted full-back. The Portuguese international was also used in midfield at times, and he was named Bundesliga Player of the Month in March. He won the DFB-Pokal with BVB in 2017 and 2021.
Felix Passlack joined BVB in 2012 and made his way through the club’s various youth teams. He won the German Championship twice with the U18s – in 2014 and 2015 – and then repeated the feat in June 2016 with the U19s. After loan spells at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, Norwich City and Fortuna Sittard, he returned to Borussia Dortmund in 2020. He helped BVB win the DFB-Pokal in 2017 and 2021. Passlack will move to VfL Bochum next season.
Mo Dahoud joined BVB in 2017 and made a total of 102 appearances in Black and Yellow as a defensive or box-to-box midfielder. “We went through ups and downs together, celebrated victories and overcame defeats. For me, it is the end of a very special chapter in my sporting career, and I have made memories and friendships that will last forever. In good times and in bad times,” he wrote on Twitter. He lifted the DFB-Pokal in 2021, and he also won his first cap for the German senior side during his time in Dortmund.
After Sebastien Haller was diagnosed with cancer, Anthony Modeste was brought in at the start of the season. The striker scored the winner in the 1-0 victory in the game at Hertha Berlin, and the equaliser in injury time in the 2-2 home draw with Bayern Munich.
Goalkeeper Luca Unbehaun helped lead the U23s into the 3. Liga in June 2021. He had played for the Black and Yellows since July 2016, initially for the youth team, and has been part of the first team squad since 2019. (cr)
