At the end of May there were important matches in the virtual blackyellow soccer cosmos. BVB’s big FIFA23 tournament called “blackyellow FIFA23 Clash” was crowned by a big offline event in SIGNAL IDUNA PARK.
But what was the “blackyellow FIFA23 Clash” all about?
BVB organized a worldwide FIFA23 tournament to let BVB and FIFA fans from all over the world compete against each other and, above all, to bring them together. In 24 online qualifying tournaments, participants from 54 different countries competed on game consoles to find the “blackyellow FIFA23 Clash” champion. The motivation was high as BVB offered the five regional champions the prospect of a finals week in Dortmund. The so-called “Grand Final Week” was packed with many highlights for the five champions, including a visit to a Bundesliga match in SIGNAL IDUNA PARK.
Where did the participants come from?
In the Asia and Oceania region, Australian Marcus Gomes came out on top and booked his ticket to Dortmund. FIFA professional Christian Lopez represented the North America region and traveled from New York. From the eSport team of former world class footballer Sergio “Kun” Agüero, Facundo Cowen from Buenos Aires won the starting place for the South America region. The region Germany, Austria, Switzerland was represented by Mohammad Chamas from Hamburg, who is no stranger to the BVB eSport cosmos: In the last SIGNAL IDUNA eFootball Cup he had already reached the second place. The Bosnian Ermin Bukvic defeated his Spanish opponent in the final of the “Rest of Europe” region and thus complimented the field of participants.
Week of decision
After the arrival in Germany, it was time for the controllers. First, the regional champions competed against each other in a group phase, from which the best four players entered the semifinals. Here, Mohammad Chamas from Hamburg played very dominantly and secured the first place in the semi-finals with four wins and a draw. New Yorker Christian Lopez marked the second place, followed by Australian Marcus Gomes. The remaining place in the semifinals went to the Argentine Facundo Owen. For Bosnian Emir Bukvic the journey was unfortunately over here.
In the following semifinals Facundo Owen won against Mohammad Chamas 3:2 and Marcus Gomes won against Christian Lopez 4:3. So it was clear, Argentinian Facundo Owen and Australian Marcus Gomes will face each other in the final.
In a thrilling match the Argentinian eSports player Facundo Owen won 4:2 against his Australian opponent Marcus Gomes and thus became “blackyellow FIFA23 Clash” champion.
BVB would like to thank all participants for the great tournament and is looking forward to more tournaments!
