On Good Friday, many hikers, walkers, joggers and cyclists met at the Rote Erde stadium to start this year’s Heinrich Czerkus memorial run. The run, which started punctually at 13:00 CET, followed a course through Rombergpark up to the memorial in the Bittermark. A total of 500 people took part despite the bad weather.

Former BVB pro Neven Subotic gave the starting signal for the run together with BVB legends Wolfgang “Teddy” de Beer and Siggi Held. Subotic’s foundation “well:fair” was also present with a stall at the event. This year’s total of 1,000 euros raised through the sale of T-shirts, mugs and cakes will go to the foundation.

The City of Dortmund held its annual remembrance ceremony at the memorial in the Bittermark, the final resting place of Heinrich Czerkus and other murder victims. A wreath was laid at the memorial in the Bittermark this year by Neven Subotic and the BVB fan department (represented by group leader Sarah Hartwich and treasurer André Krömker) in memory of former BVB groundskeeper and resistance fighter Heinrich Czerkus, BVB member Franz Hippler and the 300 other people who were murdered by the National Socialists on Good Friday 1945.

Afterwards, certificates were handed out to all participants. A big thank you goes out to all those who attended this year’s Heinrich Czerkus memorial run. It was brilliant to see so many of you there!

Special thanks also go to the organisers. The Heinrich Czerkus run is organised every year jointly by the Naturfreunde Dortmund-Kreuzviertel, the “Heinrich Czerkus BVB Fan Club”, the Fan-Projekt Dortmund e.V. and the BVB Learning Centre with the support of BVB and the BVB fan department.

We look forward to next year!
