Wins aplenty for FCA players in international action
Beljo makes Croatia debut
After Ruben Vargas was ruled out for Switzerland due to an adductor injury, five FCA players are currently in action for their national teams.
The qualifying games for EURO 2024 in Germany are taking centre stage. Ermedin Demirović will be looking to take part, with his Bosnia and Herzegovina side still in with a chance. After the 2-0 win in Liechtenstein on Friday, they sit four points behind Slovakia with three matches still to play. Demirović provided an assist with a cross for Miroslav Stevanovic to score the second goal against Liechtenstein. On Monday (20:45 CEST), they face a crunch meeting with Portugal.
Dion Beljo nearly marked his debut for the Croatian senior side with a goal against Turkey. With his team 1-0 down, the FCA forward came on as an 81st-minute substitute and had the goal at his mercy. Beljo however shot straight at Ugurcan Cakir from close range, meaning Turkey held on to their victory. Croatia are in action again in Wales on Sunday (20:45 CEST).
Engels and Kömür both score
Arne Engels and Tim Breithaupt were both in action for their respective U21 teams. Engels made up part of the Belgian starting XI that won 2-0 in Malta, scoring an impressive free kick in the 90th minute – his first goal for the Belgium U21 side. Breithaupt was brought on in the 72nd minute for the Germany U21s and helped the team see out a 3-2 victory in Bulgaria.
Mert Kömür starred in Germany U19s thumping 6-0 win over Kazakhstan, netting a brace to take his goal tally to four after just three games. Will the FCA home-grown talent be on the score sheet again against North Macedonia on Saturday (15:30 CEST)?
