Vargas sends Switzerland to the EUROs
Draw against Kosovo enough to seal qualification
Ruben Vargas and Switzerland have successfully booked their place at the 2024 European Championship in Germany.
The 25-year-old played a key role in helping his country qualify, having put his side ahead in their 1-1 draw with Kosovo, as well as in their 1-1 draw against Israel three days prior. The two points earned from these matches are enough to ensure that Switzerland will finish in the top two in Group I, with one match left to play against group leader Romania.
Beljo earns late call-up
Ermedin Demirović was also in action with his national side, as Bosnia and Herzegovina lost 4-1 against Luxembourg. The striker was subbed on at half time. Fredrik Jensen also featured for 60 minutes in Finland’s 4-0 win against Northern Ireland. Dion Beljo earned a late call-up for Croatia, who will come up against Armenia on Tuesday evening (20:45 CET) – a win is all they would need to book their place at next summer’s EUROs.
Meanwhile, Arne Engels featured for the full 90 minutes for the Belgium U21s in their 2-0 defeat against Scotland U21s, as Tim Breithaupt was an unused substitute for the Germany U21s in their 4-1 win against Estonia U21s. Mert Kömür and the Germany U19s faced Norway U19s in Spain, with the midfielder being subbed on at half time in a 3-1 win. The team’s next friendly against Norway will take place on Sunday (15:00 CET).
