Masaya Okugawa sent out on loan to HSV
Game time in the 2. Bundesliga
Masaya Okugawa, who joined FC Augsburg from Arminia Bielefeld in the summer and dealt with a number of injuries in the first half of the season, will spend the remainder of the 2023/24 campaign playing in the 2. Bundesliga for Hamburger SV.
Okugawa will be reunited with his former head coach Tim Walter, with whom he worked closely during the midfielder’s time at Holstein Kiel. The 27-year-old has already made 49 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga in total throughout his spells with Kiel and Bielefeld, with ten goals and eleven assists to date. Okugawa joined FC Augsburg in July on a free transfer from Arminia Bielefeld (46 Bundesliga appearances, nine goals), but only made two appearances this season off the bench against VfL Wolfsburg and Werder Bremen due to injury.
“Want to be back on the pitch on a regular basis”
“I’m very thankful to the staff at FCA for making the loan to Hamburg possible. After a difficult half a year of dealing with various injuries, I want to be back on the pitch on a regular basis and return to my top form. This opportunity will be definitely be helpful for me, as I know both the second division and Tim Walter very well from my time at Kiel,” explained the Japanese midfielder.
“Masaya joined Augsburg with a long-term injury and unfortunately continued to deal with repeated injuries over the first half of the season. By going out on loan to HSV, he should be able to get as much game time as possible and re-establish a regular competitive rhythm, so that he can return to Augsburg in the summer feeling strong. We wish him all the best and lots of success for the coming months,” said FCA’s sporting director Marinko Jurendic.
