Dorsch: “Overwhelming feeling is pride in the team’s performance”
Reaction after the 4-4 draw with Gladbach
Behind, level, ahead, last minute equaliser; the 4-4 draw between FC Augsburg and Borussia Mönchengladbach had everything. Here is the post-match reaction to the opening game of the season.
Ermedin Demirović: “On the one hand it was a brilliant game, but on the other hand at the end of the game we have only come away with a point. It is a positive that we managed to fight back and showed that we can play completely different to how we did in the DFB-Pokal. This is the FC Augsburg that we want to be. We showed another side of us and want to build on that.”
Elvis Rexhbecaj: “It was obviously a brilliant game for the neutral, but for me personally it is difficult to describe all of that so soon after full time. We really did all the running in the game and in the first half we conceded three goals that we have to defend better. It speaks to the morale in the team that we came back the way we did. Unfortunately, it leaves a pretty bitter taste in the mouth to then conceded a goal like that in the last minute. We’ve shown that we want it and that we want to be aggressive. We really should have got our just rewards.”
Niklas Dorsch: “Even if we conceded an equaliser in the last seconds, the overwhelming feeling is pride in the team’s performance. We came back from a two-goal deficit twice. That shows the super morale in the team and our team spirit. We dominated the game from the very beginning but then conceded to make it 1-0 out of nothing. We even managed to get over the kick in the teeth which it was to go 2-0 down and completely turned the game around. Despite the late equaliser, we can travel to Munich feeling good about ourselves, because with a performance like that it is also possible to get something there.”
Maximilian Bauer: “We had a really good game and it was very entertaining for the crowd. It is obviously disappointing to concede in the final seconds because the penalty is up for debate. If he even kicks him then there was not enough contact for him to go down, but we can’t change that anymore, and that’s why the main thing for us today is the way that the team played.”
Enrico Maaßen (FC Augsburg head coach): “That was a bitter end to the game, but I would like focus on the positives today. The way that the team played was excellent – both in terms of their mentality and morale as well as their football. Pass completion, shots on goal, distance run, duel success rate, sprints – we did really, really well. Obviously, we conceded too easily, and it is very annoying that a penalty like that was given against us in additional time at the end.”
Gerardo Seoane (Borussia Mönchengladbach head coach): “In the end, the overwhelmingly feeling is a positive one to have been able to come away from here with a point. Congratulations to my team for their morale. All in all, it was a game that involved a range of emotions – on the one hand we defended well in periods, but on the other hand we made way too many errors in our defensive third. When you concede four goals away from home, you can’t be pleased as a head coach. It is now about working on these things.”
