Hertha Berlin

“Didn’t give our opponents much”

Hertha didn’t have much to beat themselves up about and yet they were unable to come away with a win against FSV Mainz 05 and instead could only pick up a 1-1 draw. “We had a lot of chances on goal and honestly didn’t give our opponents much. Mainz then made their goal from their one opportunity, which is very annoying,” said Marvin Plattenhardt. Marc Kempf agreed with the Blue-Whites’ captain: “Hitting the bar is obviously annoying because we were just a few centimetres away from a win. However, we can always do with points in the relegation battle. We have gotten stronger, put in a lot of effort, and are together as a team,” underlined Hertha’s number 20. herthabsc.com has summarised the immediate reaction.

Dietmar Hopp to relinquish special status

Eight years have passed since the members of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim e.V. passed the resolution at their meeting on 9 February 2015 to transfer the majority of the voting rights in TSG 1899 Hoffenheim Fußball-Spielbetriebs GmbH to Dietmar Hopp. This was made possible by an exemption from the so-called “50+1” rule laid down in the statutes of the German Football League (DFL) and the German Football Association (DFB), which was granted by the board of the league association on 18 December 2014 and confirmed by the DFB presidium a few days later. This rule stipulates that the majority of voting rights must be held by the parent club.

VfL Wolfsburg

Structural changes

The start of February not only marks the end of the first transfer window of the year. At VfL Wolfsburg, there has been a planned restructuring at management level following the departure of Jörg Schmadtke. Marcel Schäfer, who until now was sporting director, is now the new managing director for sport, working alongside fellow managing directors Michael Meeske and Dr. Tim Schumacher. Unlike his predecessor, the ex-VfL player, who made 314 appearances for the Wolves and won both the league and DFB Cup, is also responsible for the women’s team as well as the men’s first team.

Borussia Dortmund

U19s beat PSG in penalty shootout

BVB emerged 5-4 victors in the shootout following a 1-1 draw in normal time. Farouk Cisse, Julian Rijkhoff, Michel Ludwig, Cole Campbell and Samuel Bamba clinically converted their spot-kicks, before Silas Ostrzinski ultimately marked himself out as the hero by saving the fifth and final PSG penalty from forward Ilyes Housni. “We knew Silas would save at least one penalty and that put us at a slight advantage,” beamed Mike Tullberg. BVB now face another home tie in the quarter-final, where they will take on Hajduk Split on 14/15 March. The Croats ran out surprise 2-1 winners against Manchester City.
