“I have to pay the lads a huge compliment. They deserved to make it into the final tournament. Hajduk were not the better team, but they were the luckier team. We have now reached the quarter-finals for the second time in a row, and it cannot be overstated how impressive that is,” said Mike Tullberg in summary, as he comforted his players, Filippo Mane in particular. Mane was the ninth Dortmund penalty-taker and his penalty was saved by Split’s goalkeeper Buljan, after Farouk Cisse, Julian Rijkhoff, Michel Ludwig, Göktan Gürpüz, Paris Brunner, Abdoulaye Kamara, Samuel Bamba and Nnamdi Collins had all calmly scored from the spot.

Matchday 31 ended in a 5-0 defeat for Mainz. Despite conceding an early goal, Svensson’s side were in the game in the opening stages and had a glorious chance to equalise through Jonny Burkardt. Things went downhill for the Zerofivers when Niklas Tauer was sent from the field of play in the 23rd minute for a foul in the penalty area and FSV went on to concede four more goals before the break. Mainz looked a lot more solid in the second half but were unable to get on the score sheet.
In their two remaining Bundesliga matches, VfB will be looking to do what they did last season and maintain top-flight status directly.
Goals from Grischa Prömel, Christopher Trimmel, Sheraldo Becker and Andras Schäfer made sure of the three points.
VfL Wolfsburg slipped to a 2-0 defeat at Borussia Mönchengladbach on Easter Sunday. Nathan Ngoumou (34’) and Marcus Thuram (63’) got the goals for the hosts after the Wolves were unable to make the most of their chances in a strong opening period. The result means Niko Kovac’s side remain ninth in the Bundesliga standings.
