1. FC Union Berlin

Union head to Bayer Leverkusen

1. FC Union Berlin ended 2021 on another successful note with a 1-0 win at VfL Bochum. Max Kruse’s 16th-minute strike on his weaker foot put the game to bed despite the best efforts of the newly-promoted team. Goalkeeper Andreas Luthe was back at his old stomping ground at the Ruhrstadion but he was focused on the task ahead with important saves. Bochum piled on the pressure in the second half with Pantovic missing from close range on 59 minutes. The former Bayern youngster hit the crossbar with about 10 minutes to go as the visitors from Köpenick walked away with all three points.

SV Werder Bremen

“Werder was always my number one priority”

It’s a done deal – Marvin Ducksch will continue his journey with SV Werder Bremen. The 29-year-old feels at home at the wohninvest WESERSTADION and is happy to finally have put any rumours about his future to rest. “It was always clear to me that I wanted to carry on at Werder,” Ducksch told WERDER.TV. “The team has developed a fantastic spirit over the last couple of years and I’m just pleased that I will continue to be a part of that.”

FC Augsburg

Tim Civeja moves to Saarbrücken

Civeja played for all of FC Augsburg’s youth sides and made his Bundesliga debut in January 2021 away against Werder Bremen. The Dachau-born youngster played three times for the club in the top flight.

“I’m really excited to join Saarbrücken, even if I am a little sad to be leaving Augsburg – after all, this is where I took my first steps as a pro. My loan move to Ingolstadt showed me that I need to be regularly playing football in order to keep improving. This move therefore comes at the perfect time for me,” said Tim Civeja.

“Tim Civeja came through the FC Augsburg academy and made his Bundesliga debut here. His loan move to Ingolstadt helped to develop him as a player. This transfer to 1. FC Saarbrücken, who finished fifth last season and therefore only narrowly missed out on promotion to the 2. Bundesliga, allows him to take the next step in his career. We wish Tim all the best in Saarbrücken and will keep an eye on him in the future, not just because of the buy-back clause in his contract,” commented Stefan Reuter, FCA’s board member for sport.

TSG Hoffenheim

The voice bids farewell

The PreZero Arena suddenly falls silent on Easter Sunday. 15 minutes before TSG Hoffenheim kick off against FC Schalke 04 (2-0), the music quietens down – and so do the fan chants. Only the odd noise breaks the silence before stadium announcer Mike Diehl steps up to the mic and looks up at the video screen, where an obituary for the late Christiane Rienesl, a TSG employee of many years, is displayed. By this point, it is clear to every spectator that this will not be a normal announcement from the stadium announcer. Even the many Schalke supporters pause for a moment. Mike Diehl is the only voice that can be heard.
