First the loan to Bremen, then the international break in South America and finally a debut for SV Werder: the past few weeks must have been a whirlwind for Rafael Borré. At the start of the training week ahead of the home game against 1. FC Köln, the 28-year-old Colombian was introduced to the journalists in the Mixed Zone. “I’m prepared for my new role here,” says Borré. “The team can benefit from my experience.”
“It’s been a hectic few days,” is how Jess Thorup described his first week as FCA head coach. The new boss has used this time in the best possible way, with the 53-year-old appearing pleased with the training level. “I got a very good impression of the team,” said the experienced Dane, who is focusing in particular on the players’ attitudes and mindsets. “I’ve tried to bring the players to where I want them to be as quickly as possible,” explains Thorup. For the game on Sunday, he demands above all “mentality, fight and commitment”.
FCA can count on the support of their fans from the first whistle. 2,000 supporters are following the team on the relatively short trip to Heidenheim. “I’m pleased that so many fans are coming with us to Heidenheim. That’s perfect and we need them,” said Thorup. The two teams face their first ever competitive encounter at the weekend, having only played friendlies up until now.
“There’s no desired draw in the quarterfinals,” Rummenigge emphasized (via @iMiaSanMia). “Nobody probably wants to get Real Madrid or Manchester City. But the other teams also deserve to be where they are now.”
Following on from the team’s 2-0 win against SV Oberachern in the first round, head coach Christian Streich is expecting Wednesday’s game to “be another close affair, where we will need to leave it all out there in order to reach the next round.” Under Lukas Kwasniok, who spent time as a player and coach at Karlsruher SC, SC Paderborn currently sit in 12th place in Bundesliga 2 with 15 points from 11 games. The team suffered a 3-1 defeat in the league at Hertha BSC last weekend, but cruised past Energie Cottbus in the opening round of the cup with a 7-0 win.

Angelo Stiller has wasted no time in settling in at VfB. On Saturday he’s set for a reunion with his former club, TSG Hoffenheim.
The Marketing & Services subsidiary of TotalEnergies in Germany is also expanding their previous commitment to Union’s youth development. Until now, TotalEnergies donated to the youth department for every litre the club filled up with the company’s special fuel card.
Last time out, the Wolves suffered a 2-1 loss at home to Bayer 04 Leverkusen, sending them down to ninth in the Bundesliga, while Augsburg climbed to tenth with a 5-2 win at 1. FC Heidenheim. With nothing between them in the table, the two sides now face one another on Matchday 9 (kick-off: Saturday 28 October, 15:30 CEST).
The scenario: The last doubts had been dispelled, the pressure was off. By picking up a point in their 3-3 draw in Aue, the U23s had secured their 3. Liga survival with two rounds of the season remaining. Nonetheless, the Black & Yellows did not want to rest on their laurels. With the first team not in action until Sunday evening, BVB were expecting a large crowd for their final home game of the 2022/23 campaign. Bayreuth’s relegation had already been confirmed before kick-off. The U23s had lost the reverse fixture 3-1 away from home.
