Puchacz first attracted attention as an offensively adept left-back with Lech Poznan. With 19 scorer points in 82 games, he not only aroused the interest of Union: One month before his transfer to Köpenick, the defender was nominated for the first time for the Polish senior national team in the summer of 2021 and has since played 12 international matches.
Only three teams – Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich – have been ever-present in the Bundesliga since VfL Wolfsburg’s promotion to the top flight in 1997. Like every other club in the division, the Wolves will hope to improve their record against Bayern when they host the record German champions at 20:30 CET on Wednesday evening. VfL have won only five and drawn seven of the teams’ 59 competitive meetings, with their last victory coming in the 2015 Supercup. Read on for more facts and figures on the clash with the Bavarians:
Since Thursday, several U23 players have been with Edin Terzic’s first-team squad. For today’s friendly, however, U23 coach Jan Zimmermann was able to call on four of these players in Franz Pfanne, Michael Eberwein, Lion Semic and Göktan Gürpüz. Zimmermann started with Silas Ostrzinski in goal, Patrick Göbel, Mario Suver, Felix Irorere and Hendry Blank formed the back four. Franz Roggow, Ayman Azhil and Dennis Lütke-Frie directed play in midfield. Falko Michel, Moses Otuali and Ted Tattermusch were charged with getting the goals.

This season’s Christmas break is short; FCA will host current league leaders Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Saturday, 13th January (15:30 CET). FCA will return to training on Tuesday, 2nd January in order to start preparing for a successful second half to the season.
However, as much as things change, expect some to stay the same, too. According to Sky’s Florian Plettenberg (via @iMiaSanMia), the ever-present Joshua Kimmich and Leroy Sané should figure big in the incoming coach’s plans.
Since then, a lot has changed for both clubs, but the same head coaches are still in charge. Christian Streich touched on Frank Schmidt and his Heidenheim team: “They’re very strong at home and they are particularly good from dead-ball situations, perhaps even the best in the league.” Ideally, the SC head coach wants his side to avoid giving away any free-kicks.
The sense of relief was palpable in the far west: the 3-1 victory against VfL Wolfsburg was the first time VfL Bochum had won in front of their own supporters this season following five previous unsuccessful attempts. Patrick Osterhage and the Brazilian Bernardo scored their first Bundesliga goals, before Christopher Antwi-Adjei netted to seal a liberating triumph and a jump to 12th position in the table. Two days earlier, VfL had made an important statement and extended head coach Thomas Letsch’s contract until 30 June 2026. “For me, it is and continues to be a privilege to coach VfL Bochum going forward,” said the 55-year-old, who took over the reins with the team down in 18th place in September 2022 and felt “a bit like at Christmas” following the 3-1 success against Wolfsburg. An unsurprising sentiment given that it was the Blue & Whites’ first home victory since beating Bayer 04 Leverkusen 3-0 – a result which saw Bochum escape the clutches of relegation on the final matchday of last season.
