Edin Terzic: “Looking forward to the challenge against Köln”

The Black & Yellows have successfully come through the first competitive match of the season: BVB won 6-1 away to TSV Schott Mainz last weekend and reached the second round of the DFB-Pokal. Coach Edin Terzic was not satisfied with the first 20 minutes. “But when it no longer went through the middle so often, when we discovered the flanks, almost every goal was created by a move down the wings. That makes us confident that the things that we had set out to do actually work. If we go about things more clearly and cleanly, it will get easier for us,” said the coach. “But on Saturday it’s down to business in another competition. We want to take the next step there.”

SV Werder Bremen

“Difficult to score against us”

What a perfect way to start the celebrations for Werder’s 125th anniversary! SV Werder Bremen were able to bring home all three points from the MEWA ARENA after a 1-0 win that Marco Friedl described as “incredibly physical and horrible” in his post-match interview. Despite this, the Green-Whites were strong out of possession and clinical when attacking, which allowed them to deservedly come out on top in their third game on the trot. WERDER.DE have summarised the reaction to the win.

FCA earn 1-1 draw in Bochum with late equaliser

Head coach Jess Thorup sent out an unchanged side from last weekend’s 3-2 defeat against FC Bayern München. New signing Pep Biel was included in the matchday squad for the first time, in place of the injured Dion Beljo.

The hosts started well at home on a cold and rainy afternoon in Bochum, as Patrick Osterhage missed the target from 16 meters out inside the opening quarter of an hour (11′). FCA found their way into the game as time went on, but were then unlucky to concede first. Moritz Broschinski scored an acrobatic bicycle kick following a corner to give VfL the lead (29′).

Bayern Munich Alumni: Robert Lewandowski says Bayern Munich vs. Manchester City will be 50/50 in the UCL

Tuchel is no stranger to getting the better of Pep Guardiola in the Champions League, as he lead Chelsea to victory in 2021, beating Manchester City 1-0 in Porto, Portugal by virtue of a Kai Havertz goal. That title didn’t exactly foreshadow what was to come for Tuchel at Chelsea, though, as he was dismissed by the club a little over two years later after a group stage loss to Dinamo Zagreb in the fall.

SC Freiburg

10-man Freiburg fall to derby defeat against VfB Stuttgart

The match got off to a rough start for the hosts, as Stuttgart took the lead early on. A long ball from the VfB defence sailed across the pitch and found Deniz Undav, who beat three Freiburg players to open the scoring in the third minute. The striker is currently deputising for the absent Serhou Guirassy, and is his side’s top goalscorer in this timeframe.
