On Saturday, 18th May (15:30 CEST), Werder Bremen will take to the pitch for the final time this season, ready to fight for the three points which could see them earn a place in the UEFA Conference League. Ole Werner’s men will have to rely on results elsewhere in order to seal continental qualification, while their opponents travel to the Weser seeking the point they need to ensure Bundesliga survival.
In this episode, INNN and Marcus talk about the following:
Thomas Tuchel oversaw 60 competitive matches as the head coach of FC Bayern Munich: his points average of 1.98 looks decent at first glance, but does not really live up to the standards of FC Bayern or Tuchel himself. Every single coach that has been in charge at Bayern this millennium has fared better in this regard with the exception of Jürgen Klinsmann (1.95 points per game), while Tuchel’s previous teams Chelsea (2.08), Paris Saint-Germain (2.35) and Dortmund (2.12) performed better on the pitch.

The VfB Stuttgart squad will begin their preparations for the new season on 4 July, six and a half weeks after the final game of the 2023/24 campaign against Borussia Mönchengladbach. The following friendly matches have already been confirmed.
SV Darmstadt 98: Schuhen – Klarer, Gjasula, Riedel (15. Zimmermann) – Nürnberger (83. Maglica), Holland (83. Kempe), Franjić (72. Holtmann), Bader – Skarke (72. Vilhelmsson), Justvan – Pfeiffer
Koen Casteels has racked up 274 appearances for VfL Wolfsburg since joining the club in 2015, when the Belgian goalkeeper was jostling for the No1 jersey with the Wolves’ title-winning custodian Diego Benaglio. Casteels managed to nail down a first-team spot during the following campaign – and he’s never looked back since. As he prepares to call time on his nine-year stint in Wolfsburg, the 31-year-old looks back on an eventful spell at the club.
Sebastian Kehl (in the mixed zone): “The contact is definitely there, twice in my eyes, and penalties have been given in the Bundesliga for significantly less than in this situation (with Karim Adeyemi). But we can live with the point. We tried to cause Leverkusen difficulties with moments of switch-play, but we had a few simple possession giveaways too many. We could’ve made it slightly easier for ourselves in transition. The spaces were there for counter situations.”
Shortly before the final game of the season, a key player has committed his future to the club. As managing director for sport Clemens Fritz confirmed on Friday morning, Mitchell Weiser has extended his contract with SV Werder Bremen, which was due to expire this summer.
It seems like the team got a bit of good news and also some bad news during training. Let’s start with the good stuff — Dayot Upamecano began running after battling a hamstring strain, but still could be out of action for the weekend match against Werder Bremen (Bild via @iMiaSanMia):
