Great news for Maximilian Beier, Oliver Baumann and TSG Hoffenheim: a week before the start of UEFA EURO 2024 in Germany, the two TSG first-team players can now finally look forward to the European Championship in their home country. Oliver Baumann and Maximilian Beier are in national coach Julian Nagelsmann’s final squad. Beier, who made his international debut in the 0-0 draw against Ukraine on Monday and immediately impressed, is in the squad alongside Oliver Baumann, who is still waiting to make his first appearance in the shirt of the Germany national team. Just like Beier, Baumann will be taking part in an international tournament with the senior national team for the first time. The TSG duo did not take part in the 2-1 victory against Greece.
Long before the season even began, it was expected that Union and Viktoria would once again duel for the Regionalliga Nordost title, with both clubs’ stated goals being to ultimately play in the Bundesliga. But after Viktoria came out on top last year (only to be defeated by Hamburger SV in the subsequent relegation play-off) Union currently enjoy the better position, with a three point advantage (plus a game in hand to be played at the end of April against Hertha BSC) over their city rivals.
Hans-Joachim Watzke: “Anyone who comes through the group stage of the UEFA Champions League and advances to the knockout round clearly has a lot of quality. Nobody should be under any illusions. PSV are a top team that have won every single one of their league games. That speaks volumes. We’re looking forward to these matches and embracing the challenge.”
After finishing the 2023/24 Bundesliga campaign in ninth place, SV Werder Bremen narrowly missed out on a spot in Europe. However, now that the summer break has begun, the Green-Whites can focus on the positives and take a look back at everything they achieved in the season just gone. When analysing Werder’s performance over the campaign, it’s undeniable that they had a lot of success from crosses into the middle, which we’ll delve into further in part one of the season review.

The “Pulse of Europe” citizens’ initiative, which was launched in Frankfurt in 2016, campaigns for Europe – in its own words, “consistently, diversely, personally, voluntarily, spontaneously, situationally and with the support of a Europe-wide network”. Its campaigns and projects are mainly financed by private donations. “We at Pulse of Europe are very grateful to have TSG Hoffenheim by our side,” said Dr. Daniel Röder, the chief executive and founder of the initiative.

The Copenhagen-born goalkeeper moved from his home club FC Copenhagen to the German capital in January 2016, the then 22-year-old’s first stop outside his home country. He developed into a regular starter between the posts in the second half of the season, keeping a clean sheet in six of his 14 games. The young Dane proved to be a stalwart in the following season and remained the number one goalkeeper for the then second division club until the 22nd matchday of the 16/17 season when it took an injury to stop the ambitious 6’2″ stopper. But he proved his strength and fought his way back the following season. It was another injury that ultimately put the brakes on the former Danish international, and ultimately cost him his regular place in goal for Union.
The European Championship kicks off in Germany on Friday, 14 June, with 24 teams vying for continental glory! Eight Wolves will be taking part for their respective countries.
