SV Werder Bremen

“You could just feel the atmosphere from the fans”

Rodrigo Rocha has been a Werder fan since childhood. That’s nothing special in and of itself, but growing up in Brazil, Rodrigo could only follow his beloved Green-Whites through the TV screen. Although he had plans to finally see Werder at Osterdeich in 2020, the pandemic meant the football world had to be put on pause around the time of his visit. “Now I’ve got a perfect excuse to come back again,” he said at the time, grinning – and now he has.

Union and Michael Parensen go their separate ways

The summer of 2020 marked the start of a new chapter in the newly qualified ex-professional’s life, in which he made an immediate career transition at Union. As a trainee, Parensen went through numerous departments at the club, returning to the football department a year later. From then on, he supported Oliver Ruhnert, the director of men’s professional football, in his duties. After successfully completing the management course at the DFB, for which he was registered by Union, he was appointed Technical Director of the men’s professional division in the summer of 2022, where he has been responsible for technical administration ever since. Now, after a total of 15 years together, the work between Union and Michael Parensen is now coming to an end.

Moving encounters

“We did not learn enough from history, there is still so much hate in this world.” These powerful words from Michael Smuss, one of the last survivors of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in spring 1943, stayed in Ruth Pintner’s mind. During her visit to Israel, which was organised at the invitation of the World Jewish Congress and the organisation What Matters to the DFL, the TSG Hoffenheim press officer experienced a country at war over five days, which is currently struggling with far more than the omnipresent anti-Semitism. 130 Jewish Israelis had been held hostage by Hamas since 7 October. On this fateful day for Israel, Pintner was also in Israel with her family and witnessed the terrorist attack first-hand in this already highly volatile and fragile geopolitical situation. Now the 37-year-old has returned for the first time – and experienced a country in a traumatised state.
