The scenario: The U23s had only managed to win one of their previous seven matches. Aue had not been in top form either. However, the home team had their noses in front in terms of previous third-tier meetings. The four matches had not produced a Dortmund victory. Nonetheless: BVB came away from Aue last season with a 3-3 draw that prematurely ensured their survival.

BVB President Dr. Reinhold Lunow has made it his task to strengthen internal communication between the departments of the registered association. A first step was to move into new offices in the Westfalen-Center in the immediate vicinity of the offices on the Rheinlanddamm, which had become too small for the partnership limited by shares (KGaA) and the registered association (e.V.) departments together. Lunow expects to strengthen external communication by relaunching the BVB homepage, which is planned for the first half of 2024: “We are facing the challenge of shaping and maintaining a lively club for what is now almost 190,000 members. Digital communication channels play a decisive role in this. My goal is to further strengthen and expand our digital presence.”

Gregor Kobel: “It was a super step. In a phase like this, it does you good and gives you self-confidence to fight back like this. We need to show that on the pitch game-in, game-out. And we now need to carry the momentum into the difficult weeks and continue where we left off today in Milan on Tuesday.”
Sebastian Kehl: “It was very important that we came back after going 2-0 down, got control over the game and turned it in our favour. We showed our comeback qualities again. We don’t need that every time, but it’s also been a characteristic of this team this season. The points are very good for our overall situation. For the conceded goals, we were not good at occupying or allocating space and in the challenges either. We can and must solve that better. It was an interesting match because the goals came at once and because we saw different phases.”
Match-winner: Jamie Bynoe-Gittens put in a brilliant display with the goal to make it 3-2 and the assist to make it 2-2, and also showed his pace time and again. His top speed of 33.8 km/h was the second-highest of all the players involved, and his five shots on goal were the most of any player. After previously scoring three goals as a sub, he netted as a Bundesliga starter for the first time.
Edin Terzic (at the press conference): “It’s definitely not going to be boring with us this season. We envisaged the start going very differently. The spirit, belief and energy the team showed on the pitch after going 2-0 down deserves a huge compliment. After conceding the second goal, we played a great game. We of course benefited from the fact we quickly pulled a goal back. We had our best spell in the first 15 minutes of the second half, when we missed the chance to extend our lead. It was extremely important we started the next run of fixtures with a win. We’re happy about the spirit we showed and the four goals; we’re annoyed about the two goals we conceded.”
One in three women in Germany have been impacted by physical and/or sexualised violence on at least one occasion in their lives – that is more than 12 million women. In addition, more than half of all women avoid certain places after dark and feel unsafe. All of this points towards the fact that violence against women is a widespread, omnipresent and structural problem rather than a fringe phenomenon that only occurs in certain circles.
In the clash against the team currently in sixth place in Bezirksliga Pool 2, coach Marc Liesler’s team secured not only the first title of the campaign but also the first junior girls title in BVB’s history in what is their debut season. The Kreispokal final took place at Arminia Marten’s sports complex.
