The Black & Yellow Guide to November

Wednesday 1 November (18:00 CET): BVB vs. TSG 1899 Hoffenheim
The cup tie against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim is scheduled for the very first day of the month. This Wednesday evening’s fixture at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK at 18:00 CET will determine which of the two teams progresses to the round of 16. BVB ran out 6-1 victors against TSV Schott Mainz in mid-August in the first round of this year’s competition. Hoffenheim qualified for the second round courtesy of a 4-1 away win against VfB Lübeck.

Kehl praises the team

Sebastian Kehl (in the mixed zone): “I would say that it was a bit more even in the second half but overall we hardly allowed the opposition any chances. And the dominance we perhaps had in the first half or for 60 minutes then got lost a little bit. But that’s not a criticism today, it’s ultimately also down to a Hoffenheim team that then threw everything forward once again and threw their physicality at us. They have won all their away matches. I thought we performed very, very well.”

Reus: “There was lots of movement in the final third”

Marco Reus (to Sky): “I had two or three good opportunities beforehand (editor’s note: the goal), but I wasn’t in a good position vis-à-vis the ball. The goal was a bit typical. We don’t need to talk about the fact that I was also a bit lucky. We had a few changes and still managed to make a super start to the game. Hats off! There was a lot of movement in the final third. Jamie (Bynoe-Gittens) played outstandingly, Muki (Youssoufa Moukoko) also did very well. It was a very good performance, the second half a bit less so. We didn’t give away much. That’s why it was a deserved win.”

“…put in a really good team performance”

Edin Terzic on the match and the result:
“It was a deserved victory, and we would’ve also deserved a different scoreline with this performance. As it was, it remained a close game until the end. We took a significant step forward, not only by qualifying for the second round but also in terms of how we linked up in attack and in terms of how we positioned ourselves – and also in terms of how we kept the opponent far away from our goal. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get into the counter-attacking spaces in the second half. We have to improve on that.”

Edin Terzic: “That’s what gives it its special charm”

“By Thursday, for one of the teams, the competition will be over. That’s what gives it its special charm. It’s a normal football game, just like every week, but there are no draws – there has to be a winner and a loser,” said Terzic, explaining why he is such a fan of cup competitions. In the first round proper of this year’s competition in mid-August, the Black and Yellows beat TSV Schott Mainz 6-1, while Hoffenheim qualified with a 4-1 away win at VfB Lübeck.

BVB women record 11-0 victory over Hohenlimburg

It was the long-awaited first match of the season at Stadion Rote Erde for the BVB women. And the final scoreline of 11-0 was not the only indication of how much the Borussia ladies enjoyed it. “The setting was incredible. And playing on grass in the rain is even more awesome,” said Hannah Geldschläger, who was playing at the historic venue for the first time.
