Maaßen: “Not look above or below us too much”

“We don’t want to look too much above or below us in the table,” said FCA coach Enrico Maaßen, who would rather focus on his team’s development than looking at the results of opponents. The Függerstädter are in 13th place and still five points clear of the relegation zone, six points from automatic relegation. “We have to pick up points ourselves and have the ambition to get three points every weekend,” said Maaßen ahead of the match against Frankfurt, who are currently in ninth place.

Eintracht are without a win in eight games and therefore concerned about not qualifying for European football again. “Frankfurt are not in a good period at the moment, but they are still a team that have played in the Champions League,” explained Maaßen. In the reverse fixture, FCA took the lead after just 31 seconds through Mergim Berisha, but the guests turned the game around with goals from Sebastian Rode and Ansgar Knauff. Maaßen’s aim now is to make the good periods for them in a game “even longer.”

Man of the Match Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting: “We have the quality to beat any opponent”

Bayern Munich striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting continued his great run of form in a 2:0 victory over Inter Milan for the final matchday of the UCL group stages. It was a second Man of the Match performance in as many matches for Choupo-Moting, who has been very pleased with the fruits of his labor in recent weeks:

Hertha Berlin

“We now have to keep going like this!”

The Blue-Whites picked up a point against a Europa League side in the 1-1 draw with Freiburg. It was an important point in the fight for survival, an important away point after a run of poor away performances. This was also how Prince Boateng, making his first start since the first day of the season, saw it. “We set out to show a completely different side of us to the one in Hoffenheim. There was a series of mistakes for their goal, but we didn’t give up. Team spirit, fight, everyone was there for one another and we also had fun playing – the way it should be. We knew what was riding on this game, but didn’t let that restrict us,“ said Hertha’s number 27 before continuing: “In the end, we are happy to pick up a point, which is also good for morale, even if with our chances it also could have been all three.” herthabsc.com has all the immediate reaction to the game in Freiburg.

Thomas Delaney: ”Football is life – but life is much bigger”

For 22 years, Thomas Delaney’s life revolved around just one club. After taking his first steps in the game at the age of three with top Danish outfit FC Copenhagen, he would go on to wear the white jersey of the capital-city club for more than two decades. “I always thought that my biggest goal in life was to become captain of FC Copenhagen,” Delaney says looking back. Delaney fulfilled this lifelong dream at the age of just 22. He stayed there a further three years before venturing abroad, even though the move to Werder Bremen was hardly a big leap, at least not geographically.

Malli is now 30-years-old and plays for Trabzonspor in the Turkish Süper Lig. His current side made history last season as they became Turkish champions for the first time since 1984. Malli looks back fondly on his time at Mainz.

Comedy Central is new sleeve partner

“We were quickly sure: Comedy Central and Union are not just a short affair, but something for a longer period. The chemistry between us and this great club fits. We have had an incredibly successful season behind us, first and foremost in the DFB Pokal, and now we would like to accompany the club on its further adventure journey through the Bundesliga, and – quite seriously – with a lot of humour,” said Peter Forner, Brand Director GSA at Comedy Central.

VfL Wolfsburg

Two teams full of confidence

The outlook for VfL Wolfsburg’s meeting with Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night (kick-off 18:30 CET) is anything but gloomy. BVB may be unbeaten in six games in all competitions, but the Wolves have also picked up a head of steam lately, having not lost in seven outings.

BVB women knocked out of the cup in eight minutes

Even the weather gods seemed to be up against BVB in the build-up to the game: freezing temperatures and snowfall made it impossible for the game to be played in the youth team’s stadium, so the match had to be moved to pitch 4 on the training ground. Head coach Thomas Sulewski made one change to the starting line-up from the Ahlen game, with Nora Rechenbach replacing Hanna Hentrich.
