SV Werder Bremen

“No one doubted it”

Relief prevailed at SV Werder after the 1-1 draw against 1. FC Köln. Romano Schmid secured Werder’s place in the Bundesliga with his first goal in the Bundesliga and lifted the weight off the Green-Whites’ shoulders. “I’m happy to stay in the league with such an important goal, but it has been a complete team performance over the whole season,” said the goal scorer after the final whistle. Here are the reactions to the game:

SC Freiburg

Leaving a special mark on the club

Nils Peter, who will end his career in the summer, joined SC Freiburg on loan during the winter break of the 2014/15 season and decided to remain at the club despite their relegation to the second division. In eight and a half years at the club, the striker, who also played for Carl Zeiss Jena, Energie Cottbus, FC Bayern Munich and Werder Bremen, made 277 competitive appearances. He scored 105 goals and provided 21 assists. The 34-year-old does not only have the best record as a substitute in league history, but has been SCF’s record goal scorer since January 2020. Petersen played for the Germany national side twice and won the silver medal at the 2016 Olympics.

Luca Philipp also extends with TSG

”Luca had a late development as a youth player, but then his progress was all the more rapid. His progression to playing in goal for the Germany U21 team is a testament to the outstanding goalkeeping training at TSG,” says Alexander Rosen, director of football at TSG Hoffenheim. ”Luca has a huge desire to learn, he’s hard-working and he’s talented. Since the beginning of last year he’s established himself as the number two behind Oliver Bauman. Regardless of that, there are open discussions taking place between us and his inner-circle to decide whether a loan might make sense at the end of this season to give him more playing time at as high a level as possible.”

VfL Wolfsburg played out their tenth draw of the current Bundesliga campaign on Sunday evening, playing out a 0-0 stalemate at home to Bayer Leverkusen in the final game of Matchday 28. The 20,137 fans at the Volkswagen Arena had little to shout about in a first half of few opportunities, but both teams created chances to claim all three points after the interval. However, neither side could find a way past the opposing goalkeeper.
