RB Leipzig defeated FC Bayern away for the first time in club history on Bundesliga matchday 33. Marco Rose’s side turned around a first-half deficit to defeat the record champions 3-1 in Munich. Serge Gnarby put Bayern ahead (25’) and the home side took a one-goal advantage into the break, but a Konrad Laimer goal (65’) and a penalty each for Christopher Nkunku (76’) and Dominik Szoboszlai (86’) gave RBL the win and qualification for the Champions League.

FC Bayern enjoyed a strong start to the game and Thomas Müller was denied by Janis Blaswich on 18 minutes. Seven minutes later, Serge Gnabry found the back of the net via the post and gave his side the lead. Jamal Musiala headed into the side netting (28’), before Yann Sommer pulled off a number of saves to deny a Szoboszlai volley (34’), an Nkunku shot (35’) and a header from Dani Olmo (36’) to ensure his side went into the break with the lead.

RBL were much better in the second half and were finally rewarded on the counter attack, when Konrad Laimer and three others surged downfield after a Bayern corner in a move that resulted in the midfielder nettingthe equaliser (65’). 

Christopher Nkunku gave Leipzig the lead from the penalty spot (76’) after being fouled in the area by Benjamin Pavard. Dominik Szoboszlai converted RBL’s second penalty of the game in the 86th minute after Noussair Mazraoui handled the ball in the area. The win and three points ensured Leipzig will be playing Champions League football next season.

After a Bayern corner, RBL hit brilliantly on the counter attack, with four players bearing down on one defender. Laimer slips the ball into Nkunku, whose square pass is deflected into the path of Laimer. He takes a tocuh and fires into the roof of the net
