Head coach Christian Streich made just one change to the starting XI following last weekend’s 2-1 derby win against VfB Stuttgart. Roland Sallai was on the bench as Lucas Höler replaced him in attack, alongside Gregoritsch. Bochum were without Gerrit Holtmann (knee operation), who had been a thorn in Freiburg’s side when the two sides met earlier this season (1-0 win for SC).
Sometimes talking post-match is about finding words when words are hard to find. This was the case after the game on Friday night against Mainz, as Hertha conceded late in injury time to draw the game 1-1. But, despite the finish to the game, all in all it was not too bad a performance. “We were so close to getting a win. In games like these we have to keep competing in challenges right until the end of the game so that the second balls do not fall to our opponent,” stated Jean-Paul Boëtius. Marvin Plattenhardt, meanwhile, explained his disappointment: “The late equaliser is obviously extremely hard to take. We didn’t have a hold of the game in the second half and lost the ball a lot when playing it forward.” herthabsc.com has summarised the initial reaction to the game against Mainz.

It was a relatively scrappy affair at the MEWA ARENA on Friday evening when Mainz took on Sandro Schwarz’s Hertha BSC, but it certainly ended with a bang. It looked for all the world that the Zerofivers would fall to a defeat, but substitute Anthony Caci’s injury time strike rescued a point for Svensson’s side. Lucas Tousart gave the visitors the lead in what was a first half with very few chances. Hertha remained resolute throughout the contest and Mainz, who were missing the likes of Jonny Burkardt, lacked the fire power needed to break their opponents down.
