“This trip makes us, the entire club, very proud.”

From July 28th to August 4th, RB Leipzig was in the USA. During the club’s first US Tour, the Red Bulls first stopped in New York and then in Miami.

In addition to the two friendly matches against Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers, many other events were on the agenda, such as the release of the third jersey in Times Square and the reunion with Emil Forsberg.

Our Managing Directo, Johann Plenge, showed himself pleased with how things went.

Johann Plenge on…

… his conclusions of the US Tour

  • “This trip makes us, as a club, very proud. We represent an entire region of Germany and its football community. We want to bring our football, our club and our city to the world. We have succeeded in doing this very well in the last few days.

We are aware that we’ve been far away from Leipzig these past days. It was very pleasing that we were welcomed at the airport in New York by RBL fans who had travelled with us, and that we had our supporters cheer us on during training and the first friendly match.

We’ve been on the road for a week now, but we’ll remain close and approachable in Leipzig. And even though we were thousands of kilometers away, my impression is that the images and stories that emerged during the US Tour were received very positively by our fans. Many are happy when they see their club in cities like New York or Miami. We’ve managed the balancing act well.

The next highlight will be in Leipzig again next weekend when we face a top European club in Paris St. Germain, in front of our fans in our home, the Red Bull Arena. We are all really looking forward to this season opener!”

Johann Plenge on…

… the reasons on why the US

  • “There were several reasons why we chose the USA for our first tour. We wanted to make our club better known in a very exciting environment, but also to make our contribution to the international marketing of the Bundesliga: the USA is currently the most important market for both the DFL and us. In that regard, we were the face of the Bundesliga here this summer.

In addition, we have a strong presence and excellent representation with Red Bull, PUMA and IHG Hotels. In just under two years, the World Cup will take place in the USA, Canada and Mexico. You can just feel how football is growing in the US and we are very pleased that we have been able to have a presence here. There is plenty of interest in top European teams in the USA. The start has been made to make RB Leipzig more tangible throughout North America.”

… exciting meetings

  • “We took the opportunity to meet different partners and expand our network. This included the MLS (Major League Soccer), with whom we spoke about the organization and marketing of football games after the MLS visited us in Leipzig a few months ago. It was a very special meeting and it will certainly not be the last collaboration between the MLS and RB Leipzig. Both sides can learn and benefit from each other. That is exactly what we are after.

We also visited the Brooklyn Nets, among others, and were given a very warm welcome there. It’s very inspiring to see what the spectators are offered around a game day in the NBA. Dennis Schröder, one of the best German basketball players, is currently playing for the Brooklyn Nets. Overall, the Nets are a top-tier global sports brand. The discussions there were also very exciting and we look forward to continuing the exchange.”
