“I’ll give everything to ensure we’re successful”

Hallo Ata, you came to VfB from Holstein Kiel in 2019. Five years later, you extend your contract for a second time. How does it feel?

Ata: “I’m very proud to have extended my contract at VfB by two years. I can’t describe the feeling of still playing for such a big club.”

You’ve experienced quite a lot with VfB in sporting terms: you came to Stuttgart in 2019 following relegation, played in Bundesliga 2, achieved promotion, stayed up in dramatic fashion twice and now you’ll be playing in the Champions League with VfB next season. Describe your journey to us.

Ata: “I’ve followed VfB’s path and have been convinced by this path since day one. Unfortunately, it just took a bit longer than intended. Despite everything, we can now say that we were able to show a face that fits VfB this season. I remain utterly convinced by the quality in our team and am very happy to be here. I’ll give everything to ensure we’re also successful in the future.”

How’s your summer break going?

Ata: “The running sessions have started – our fitness coach puts a lot of emphasis on them. But there’s also more time for my girlfriend and family during the off-season. Of course, I’ll be following the European Championship and supporting our lads who are currently with the national team. I’m really pleased for them and wish them all the best at UEFA EURO 2024.”

You’re now under contract at VfB until 2028. How do you see the upcoming season?

Ata: “We’re highly motivated, the whole city is motivated. We want to take this energy with us into next season and let it flourish. We’re playing in the UEFA Champions League and we appreciate every bit of support from our fans. Everyone is important, not just the lads sitting in the dressing room but also those outside. We‘re all really looking forward to the new season.”
