1. FC Union Berlin has reached an agreement with Panathinaikos Athens to loan Tymoteusz Puchacz until the end of the season. At the beginning of 2022, the 23-year-old Polish international had already been on loan to Turkish first division club Trabzonspor for six months.
From Poznan to Berlin
Puchacz first attracted attention as an offensively adept left-back with Lech Poznan. With 19 scorer points in 82 games, he not only aroused the interest of Union: One month before his transfer to Köpenick, the defender was nominated for the first time for the Polish senior national team in the summer of 2021 and has since played 12 international matches.
Puchacz accepted the tactical change from a classic left-back to a track player from the first training session. In his first season for 1. FC Union Berlin, Puchacz made seven appearances. In order to get more playing time, the Polish international moved to Turkey to join Trabzonspor for the second half of the season. He made 13 appearances with the team from the Black Sea coast and became Turkish champion. In the current season, he has made three appearances for Union and scored an important goal in the DFB Cup against 1. FC Heidenheim.
Managing Director Professional Football Oliver Ruhnert: “Tymoteusz is a player who urgently needs playing time. He has already shown his abilities and approaches with us and we would like to give him the opportunity to prove himself again in a strong team. Therefore, we have decided together that a loan makes sense for both sides. We wish him every success in Athens and hope that he will continue his development in the desired direction.”
