One last time in 2023!

RB Leipzig are the visitors away at Werder Bremen on Tuesday evening (18:30 CET) on matchday 16 in the Bundesliga.

Our head coach Marco Rose responded to the media’s questions prior to the clash.

Who’s fit for RBL’s last game of the year? What does Marco make of SVW? Additionally, how does our head coach look back on the year?

He answered all of these questions during today’s press conference.

Squad news | 18th December

  • Lukas Klostermann and Benjamin Sesko are feeling better again after a cold, and both will train on Monday. Klosti (muscle problems) will complete part of training. Both players should be available to play in Bremen on Tuesday.

  • Mohamed Simakan, Xavi and Lois Openda have all picked up four yellow cards in the league this season, which means they will pick up a one-game suspension if they are booked against SV Werder Bremen on Tuesday.

We want to go the extra mile once more.
Marco Rose ahead of the game at Werder Bremen

Marco Rose on…

…SV Werder Bremen

  • “Bremen are always a tough team to play against, especially at the Weserstadion. They’ve got a great stadium and great fans. They have a very good coach and are well-structured in general. They’ve not changed their approach massively from last year. We therefore know what to expect in Bremen.

“We need to defend well against them, but we also want to build pressure and challenge them. We need to give it everything we’ve got tomorrow – that’s going to be important once again following an intense year. We’re heading to Bremen full of confidence and we’re in good spirits overall. We’ve won our last four games, including the Champions League game against Young Boys. We want to back that up and go the extra mile once more.”

…Werder’s centre-forward partnership Ducksch and Borré

  • “Both of them know where the back of the net is. Both have a good feel for certain situations, know where the ball is going to end up and often get themselves in the right place at the right time. Ducksch is technically gifted and has developed well in the last few years. We need to keep an eye on both of them, that’s clear.”

Marco Rose on…

the first half of the season and the summer upheaval

  • “Football is a day-to-day business. However, we can talk about a very successful upheaval up until this point. We are in the Champions League round of 16 and we’re sitting third in the Bundesliga. Nevertheless, I also know that we need to keep on proving ourselves because the world looks completely different again when you lose two games. We’re happy to take the positive results with us, but we need to keep going.”

…his wishes for the second half of the season

  • “Naturally, there’s always room for improvement. We should stay relaxed, but continue to work hard so that we achieve our goals. That’s what it’s all about.”
