Neuhaus: “I’m extremely proud to be a Borusse”
After extending his contract at Borussia until 2027, Florian Neuhaus spoke to the media in the Flatex press club. Hear from the midfielder on his decision to extend, pre-season training and his goals for the upcoming season.
Florian Neuhaus on…
…the decision to extend his contract: I feel at home at Borussia Mönchengladbach and have been here for six years now. I have a role within the team and it’s a lot of fun to play together with the lads. I have the feeling that we’re building something new here. Borussia are a big club with a lot of fans that stand behind the club. I’m extremely proud to be a Borusse.
…his negotiations with the club: Borussia were always the first point of contact for me. I’ve featured in over 170 games for this club, have only played for them in the Bundesliga and became a Germany international while here. I’ve already said that I feel at home here. I wear the Borussia shirt with a lot of pride and am very happy that we managed to come to an agreement.
…his personal goals: I want to build on the performances I’ve shown so far. At the same time, I also want to take the next step, in terms of my character. I want to take on more responsibility, something that happens automatically when you’re part of the more experienced players in the squad, for example, those that have taken part in several training camps before. It’s normal to then help support the younger players and show them the ropes.
…head coach Gerardo Seoane: The coach is always a key component. Right from our first meeting, I felt that my thoughts on how to play football fit with how the coach wants us to play. He’s hitting the right tone and knows when we need encouragement and when to be a bit harder on us. It’s working well and it’s also up to us players to make sure that we remain disciplined.
…the last two years: I think that the club have been searching for a way to define themselves over the last two years. We’re now back to doing what made Borussia strong in the past. Personally, last season wasn’t easy for me after injuring my ACL, because it knocked me off my rhythm.
…pre-season: We’re working very hard in training camp and I have a good feeling. The mood in and around the team is positive, which is important. We want to take a step forward, with an eye on how we play football. It’s possible to lose games in the Bundesliga, but it’s about how you play. We want to show a different side to ourselves as a team.
…how Borussia want to play: We want to make it tough for our opponents to play against us and that it’s clear to anyone watching that we’re all fully invested in Borussia. If we do so, then we’ll be able to form a bond with the fans and make it tough for other teams to play against us.
…his new number 10 shirt: I wore it when I was in the 1860 Munich academy and always felt good in it. It was available now, so it was a good chance to take it.
