Alejandro Garnacho has reportedly ‘reached an agreement in principle’ for a new contract at Manchester United after much deliberation, with his salary ‘adjusted according to his new status’.

Garnacho has looked for a while like he could be the next big star at Old Trafford. Indeed, he scored seven goals and provided three assists in just six FA Youth Cup games last season.

The forward scored a brace in the final as United won 3-1. His elevation to the first team happened towards the back end of last season and this term he’s cemented his place in Erik ten Hag’s plans.

Indeed, the forward has played 25 times in all senior competitions this season. Among those appearances he’s scored the winning goal on two occasions – against Real Sociedad and Fulham – as well as scoring another goal and assisting five times.

To have such an impact for one of the world’s biggest clubs at 18 years of age shows tremendous quality.

As such, United have been keen to tie him down to a new deal – his ends in 2024. Talks have been ongoing for months and during that time links have emerged to Real Madrid.

Garnacho was recently , as he’s “not trying to help,” amid talks with United and distractions from elsewhere.

However, it seems the Old Trafford outfit have now made a breakthrough in negotiations. ESPN reports Garnacho has ‘reached an agreement in principle to sign a new five-year deal’.

The report suggests there is ‘financial consensus for him to extend his say until 2028’. What’s more, it appears he’s in line for a pay rise, given his good performances are growing role under Ten Hag.

Indeed, it’s reported ‘the new deal will see his salary adjusted according to his new status due to the progress he has made since his debut’.

The report also states there is only one step to go until the deal is finalised, relating to Garnacho’s ‘image rights’.

For United, it’ll be a big plus to keep him around for the coming years. He seems as if he could be a global superstar, if his performances at such a young age are anything to go by.

As such, keeping him at the club to be nurtured and become a legitimate star will mean they should remain competitive in the future.
