Seven VfL players are on the road with their national teams in the upcoming FIFA international break. Both Gerrit Holtmann and Patrick Osterhage can celebrate debuts: Holtmann could make his first appearance for the Philippine national team, Patrick Osterhage would be the next German U21 international after Maxim Leitsch and Armel Bella Kotchap. In addition, junior professional Tjark Ernst will first take part in a DFB U19 training course before traveling to Finland for the UEFA Elite Round.
Ermedin Demirović and Mads Pedersen missed the game through suspension, while Mergim Berisha was also out after picking up an ankle injury during the 2-2 draw against Wolfsburg. The club’s top scorer was replaced by Fredrik Jensen, who partnered Dion Beljo up front in the starting XI.
“We’re going to rotate tomorrow because a few players are tired. We want to win the game and we still have important games ahead of us in the Bundesliga. Other players will have the chance to show up tomorrow. 18 points in the group would be very good,” Nagelsmann said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Leroy Sané is not an option yet for tomorrow. He will likely return to the squad on the weekend. The same goes for Lucas Hernandez. They both trained with the team again. Matthijs de Ligt will not be available either, maybe he will return on the weekend too. Thomas (Müller) will train this week under reduced workload, then we’ll see. But I don’t think he’ll be available this weekend. Regarding Manu (Neuer), we’re hoping he returns this weekend, he coped well with training today. But we have to keep waiting.”

The German Football League (DFL) confirmed the schedule for Bundesliga Matchdays 20 to 25 today. The match on 5 March will kick off at 17:30 CET and a week later (12 March), VfL will take to the field at the Volkswagen Arena at the later time of 19:30 CET.
Edin Terzic (speaking to Prime): ”It was a very harsh decision to give a penalty. It was then even harder to accept that the spot-kick would be retaken due to Salih Özcan entering the area too early. Havertz stopped moving altogether before he struck the ball, and Chelsea players were the first to encroach into the box. We’ve been told that has no relevance. I’m curious to know if the penalty would have been retaken if it had gone in. But now we’ve talked too much about the referee. They were two close games. It is an incredibly bitter pill to swallow, we are extremely disappointed. We were very dominant in the second half. The two games were evenly-matched. Chelsea deserve to go through. But we deserve it just as much. From the tenth minute onwards we took control. Their best chances were from offside situations. In the second half, we were able to increase the pressure, but unfortunately we couldn’t find the back of the net.”
