Union host midweek clash against Freiburg

1. FC Union Berlin suffered just a fourth league defeat of the season so far, losing at newly-promoted Greuther Fürth on Sunday. Havard Nielsen’s second-half strike was the decisive moment of the game as Stefan Leitl’s team won for the first time in their Bundesliga history at the Sportpark Ronhof. Urs Fischer’s side dominated in Fürth but were unable to take advantage of the second half pressure against Sascha Burchert’s goal.

Women’s handballers start season run-in with game against Zwickau

BVB are the heavy favourites for the clash with the Eastern Germans. Borussia have won every single meeting since the visitors were promoted in summer 2021 and claimed a 33-22 victory in the reverse fixture at the start of December. BSV occupy 11th place in the table, while BVB sit in third position – the roles are therefore clearly defined. However, coach Henk Groener will be without an important performer: Zoë Sprengers is carrying a knock and will miss out.

Sabitzer was benched in favor of the midfield duo of Fred and Casemiro. The defense seemed solid enough with David de Gea in goal, protected by Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, and Diogo Dalot.
