Ngankam replies to Grifo as Freiburg draw with Hertha

It was a quiet start to the game, during which the guests had more of the ball: Hertha also had the first chance of the game after ten minutes. Lucas Tousart drove past Kenneth Schmidt on the right side of the penalty box and put a flat cross in, only finding Matthias Ginter. Ginter was playing in a back three alongside Manuel Gulde and the aforementioned Schimdt, who was making his first Bundesliga start for Freiburg. Lukas Kübler was absent today due to illness. As well as Schmidt, Lucas Höler was a new face in the starting XI compared to SCF’s most recent 1-1 draw against FSV Mainz 05. He replaced the suspended Michael Gregoritsch.

The most important figure

24 games have been played in the 2022/23 Bundesliga season, which corresponds to about 70 percent of the total number of matches, with ten games remaining. Both their own results and those of other teams can still change things considerably for every side, including Hertha. Sandro Schwarz is not a fan of numbers games and projections in the relegation battle. “In the end, you have to control it yourselves, no one will help you,” stressed the head coach, focusing on his own players, and added, “We have picked up seven points in the last five games, and only by doing this can we make an impact. We also need patience and clarity to continue working and developing.”

Hertha Berlin

“We need to show that we can deal with setbacks”

The pre-match press conference ahead of this weekend’s game was a slightly different one this week as head coach Sandro Schwarz was absent due to a stomach bug. In his place was assistant coach Volkan Bulut, who discussed Saturday’s away game against TSG Hoffenheim (18/03/23, 15:30 CET), who spoke at a press conference for the first time.  “It’s a new situation for me, but of course we’re in contact with Sandro all the time. We’re either messaging or speaking on the phone and we discuss everything we’re working on,” said the 41-year-old. “For us, it doesn’t mean much that the two clubs are close to each other in the table. We’ll focus on ourselves,” said Bulut on this weekend’s clash against Hoffenheim. Here’s what the assistant coach had to say on:

Hertha Berlin

“Having the right answers in the head-to-heads”

Some coincidences are too good not to talk about, like the fact that Lucas Tousart scored his first home goal for Hertha exactly a year ago today. The opponents back then were TSG Hoffenheim, who were in the Europa league. 363 days later, the two sides’ paths will cross again under different circumstances, also because the Old Lady will travel to Sinsheim this time. “It will be a very close, hard-fought match, especially because of the situation in the table,” predicted Tousart. “It will be important for us to bring our game and rhythm onto the pitch from the start. We have to have the right answers in our head-to-heads. Picking up three points there would certainly raise our morale!” The Frenchman spoke to herthabsc.com ahead of the match on Saturday (18/3 15:30 CET) about the upcoming meeting in Kraichgau, his personal development and the new setup in Hertha’s midfield.

OLYMPIQUE MARSEILLE WINS GG8-YOUNGSTER CUP

In the first semi-final, Olympique Marseille met FC Basel. The French were superior on the pitch, created some promising chances and hit the aluminium several times during the match. The only thing they failed to do was score a goal, so that in the end it had to be decided in a penalty shoot-out. The players from Olympique were lucky but deserved to win 3:1 and became the first participants in the final.

VfL Wolfsburg
