Borussia Dortmund

”Everyone is placing our common goal above themselves”

The Black & Yellows have been more or less perfect in Dortmund this season. Their home record of 13 wins, one draw and one defeat is the best in the league. ”Our recent home matches have been really good,” said Terzic, as he took a look back at last Saturday, when BVB romped to a 6-0 win over VfL Wolfsburg. ”Wolfsburg were in really good form coming into the game. We managed to play some really good football, and that was down to our conviction, confidence and quality. That’s what it will come down to again when we play Gladbach the day after tomorrow.”

The BVB women’s handballers sign Tess Lieder

Tess Lieder (formerly Wester) last played for Romanian club CSM Bucuresti, for whom she made her most recent competitive appearance in the 2021/22 season. She then took a break and became a mother for the first time last year. Borussia will be her third club in the Bundesliga, having already plied her trade for VfL Oldenburg (2011-15) and SG BBM Bietigheim (2015-18). The Dutchwoman became a world champion in December 2019 and was voted into the All-Star Team at the World Cup. The goalkeeper is also a two-time national champion: she won the German title with Bietigheim in 2017 and the Danish one with Odense Håndbold in 2021.

FCA return home empty-handed after defeat in Munich

FC Augsburg started bravely, doing well to deal with Bayern’s early forays into the final third. Serge Gnabry was able to break through in the 11th minute, but Arne Engels was ready to block a shot from the Germany international at the key moment.

The moments that followed saw FCA record good chances of their own. Ermedin Demirović nearly netted the opener for the visitors in the 27th minute, but sent his attempt just wide of the left post.

The hosts were then fortunate to take the lead in the 32nd minute. After an initial strong save from Finn Dahmen to deny Leroy Sané, the ball bounced off of Felix Uduokhai and rolled into the back of the net. Minutes later, FCA were dealt another set-back after Niklas Dorsch was judged to have handled the ball inside the box. Harry Kane stepped up to take the penalty for the hosts and made it 2-0 (40’).

FC Augsburg reactions to topsy-turvy defeat to Bayern Munich

“We started the game well, but should’ve been more determined and defended better,” said head coach Enrico Maaßen (via FCBayern.com). “We played openly after going behind and scored three goals –- that’s a positive. If you concede five, you don’t have a chance of getting a point here. Bayern also have great quality at set pieces. We deserved to lose.”

Union face Augsburg home clash

1. FC Union Berlin won 2-1 at home to Borussia Mönchengladbach at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei to continue the excellent start to the campaign. Niko Gießelmann doubled his tally for Union Berlin, heading the Köpenick club into the lead on 22 minutes. After a bright start in his second season in Union colours, Taiwo Awoniyi celebrated one of his highlights at the club. The Nigerian striker ran almost the length of the pitch, holding the ball up before eventually combining wonderfully with Max Kruse and slotting past Yann Sommer. Borussia Mönchengladbach returned from the interval with something to prove after a difficult start to Adi Hütter’s team’s season. Andreas Luthe was kept on his toes, but as Union settled back into the contest, Urs Fischer’s side may have felt the game could have been put to bed. Gießelmann headed wide on the hour mark from a free-kick while Max Kruse’s shot was deflected from a good position. Jonas Hofmann netted in stoppage time to make it a nervy conclusion to proceedings, but the three points were added to Union’s account.

The fans behind the designs: Portrait of Patrick

“I’m not the type for the playful jerseys,” says Patrick P. from Menden. In his design, he focused on geometric shapes that have a harmonious effect. “The design is therefore timeless and modern. The vertical stripes with different thicknesses look very dynamic and down-to-earth,” says the finalist, who also thought of the fan “who wants something special” in his jersey.
