While Bayer 04 Leverkusen were able to celebrate winning the Bundesliga title, it was heartbreak for Werder on Sunday afternoon after they fell to a heavy 5-0 defeat against the undefeated side at the BayArena. SVW battled hard in the first half and went into the break just 1-0 down after Boniface found the net from the spot (25’). The Werkself piled on the pressure and bagged four more, first through Xhaka (60’), before Florian Wirtz joined in on the action with a hat-trick (68’, 84’, 90’) to round off Leverkusen’s title-winning game.

Sporting director Hasan “Brazzo” Salihamidžić cut short his vacation and the club personnel grouped put their heads together to formulate a plan.

For the fourth edition of this Bundesliga match-up, the Freiburg coaching staff made two changes to the starting line-up. Vincenzo Grifo started in place of Merlin Röhl, and Roland Sallai replaced the suspended Lucas Höler in the starting XI.

Bayer Leverkusen had a 13-point lead heading into the match against Werder Bremen, knowing a victory would secure the Bundesliga even with five matches remaining. The hosts made easy work of Bremen as they won 5-0 thanks to a penalty from Victor Boniface, a wonderful strike from Granit Xhaka and a Florian Wirtz hat trick.

BVB went into the game in third place in the table with a 10-2 points tally and had suffered only one previous defeat at home to Metzingen. Thüringen were in fourth place with 8-4 points following their defeats against Bietigheim and Bensheim-Auerbach. The meetings last season had produced a 30-30 draw in the reverse fixture and a 40-34 defeat in Thüringen. In the third match, BVB had beaten THC 28-23 in the third-place play-off of the EHF European League. 

While Sunday afternoon was a time for celebration for the hosts after they claimed their first Bundesliga title in the club’s history, SV Werder Bremen had to deal with the disappointment of a 5-0 defeat on the road. WERDER.DE were in the mixed zone after the game to gather the Green-Whites’ reaction to the defeat.

Mount, however, has a lot of outside interest — in addition to Chelsea wanting to re-sign him. Arsenal FC, Liverpool FC, and Manchester United are all very interested in the 2020/21 Champions League winner.
