After a one-year intermezzo in the second division, SV Werder Bremen returned to the Bundesliga in May 2022, celebrating staying up on the penultimate matchday of last season. The German international Niclas Füllkrug played a major role in this success, scoring 16 times to become the league’s top scorer. In the summer, however, the striker was lured away to play for Borussia Dortmund.
No longer are Bayer Leverkusen cast as perennial runners-up. The Werkself’s class of 2024 exorcised ghosts of painful failure Sunday evening, as they swept to their first Bundesliga title in the club’s history with a dominant 5-0 win over Werder Bremen.
The home game against Rasenballsport Leipzig (9/12) and the away match in Darmstadt (13/1) will both take place in the 18:30 CET slot on Saturday evenings. The games in Augsburg and Cologne are scheduled for the classic football time of 15:30 CET on Saturdays. BVB will play the final match of the year on their birthday: at home to Mainz at 20:30 CET on Tuesday 19 December.
Later, however, Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel refuted this idea. In the press conference before the debacle against Mainz 05, Tuchel stated (as captured by @iMiaSanMia) that Tel would only be playing off the bench and left the idea of a loan move in the summer open.
