SV Werder Bremen has reached an agreement to extend the contract of young striker Joel Imasuen. The 19-year-old’s contract extension was announced by Clemens Fritz, head of professional football, on Wednesday.

The midfielder joined 1. FC Union Berlin back in 2011, progressing through all the club’s youth teams. In his last season as a youth player, he was made captain and scored five goals in eight games, assisting in another four. The following summer, Dehl was loaned out to Hallescher FC, a move followed by loan spells in the Irish Premier League with Bohemians and Regionalliga club FC Viktoria 1889 Berlin. The 22-year-old made his first competitive appearance for Union’s men’s first team in the UEFA Conference League play-off second leg against Kuopion Palloseura in August 2021, coming on as a substitute just a few minutes before the end. Dehl has already played a total of 40 professional games in his young career.

The award was presented to BVB Managing Director Carsten Cramer by the Anti-Semitism Commissioner of the United Kingdom, Lord John Mann, and representatives of the Combat Anti-Semitism Movement. The award ceremony took place at the “Phoenix des Lumières” art centre in Dortmund, a former gas blower hall of the Phoenix West blast furnace plant.

“A very wise coach once said: Whoever signs a contract with FC Bayern must know what he has done,” Kahn said after the match (via Az’s Maximilian Koch). “There is always a lot of discussion here, which is nothing unusual. My focus is now on one title.”

There are four days between the match at the San Siro and the next competitive game at the BayArena on Sunday – an unusually large gap for an English week. But not all the players were able to use that time to become fit and healthy.
