Christian Streich reviews Sotogrande training camp

The training camps have changed a lot over the years. In the past, we would have done three training sessions a day, but that’s not the case anymore. We’ve adapted the training camp sessions to fit the rhythm of our game during the season, and you can see the results for yourselves. Players don’t need quite as much recovery time; they’re fresher and fitter in the sessions and don’t get injured as often. That’s reflected in the performances they put in in training.

Siquet joins Cercle Brugge on loan

“Hugo needs regular game time at this point in his career, which we couldn’t guarantee him for the time being, given how intense the fight for places in the team is,” explained sporting director Klemens Hartenbach. “As a result, the loan move, back to his homeland in Belgium, makes sense and comes at the right time.”

“Can’t run into situations like a headless chicken”

Christian Streich summarised the game from a Freiburg perspective now some time had passed in his press conference on Tuesday: “We were often just slightly too late. Wolfsburg were quicker and always there earlier, and then obviously the game developed in a way that doesn’t happen with every game.” It is now important to the SC head coach and his coaching team, “that the boys keep their heads clear.” He also stated that there is no need for everything to be questioned on the basis of one game.

A lively point under the lights

Streich oversaw a controlling opening stage from his team, with repeated long balls looking to get in behind the Eintracht back line. One of their targets was Lucas Höler, who returned to the starting XI alongside Philipp Lienhart and Killiann Sildillia. Daniel-Kofi Kyereh, Manuel Gulde and Wooyeong Jeong were all on the bench for the start.

Energy required against Ausgburg

Wednesday’s draw saw Freiburg demonstrate the typical that have been evident in the majority of their games this season – strong in duels, courageous and willing to attack. The clash against the defending Europa League champions also showed something else, however, which head coach Streich mentioned at Friday’s press conference. “The team did really well against Frankfurt, but it was only enough to get a draw. That shows you what kind of demands we’re under.”
