Guardiola realistic about title chances despite ‘excellent’ Man City second-half performance

“In the first half, they were much better than us. Second half, we were much, much better. At half-time, we said we were not playing, just defending because they were so good, but we should be more active and the second half was excellent.”

Mike Tullberg: ”We want to win in Mainz”

At the final whistle, the Black & Yellows had disappointment written on their faces, while the Hertha players couldn’t muster up any enthusiasm about their 1-0 win on the day, which served as scant consolation after their heavy defeat last week. ”It was the same last year, when we beat Schalke 5-1 in the semi-final first leg and then lost 1-0 in the second leg,” recalled BVB captain Nnamdi Collins, adding: “Defeats are always bad, you saw that with our initial reaction, but now we’re happy. We have our place in the final and we deserve it.”

1. FSV Mainz 05

Finding success down the flanks

1. FSV Mainz 05 are set to host record champions FC Bayern München at the MEWA ARENA on Saturday afternoon (15:30 CEST). The Zerofivers have won both their last two Bundesliga home games against the Bavarians, although they were defeated 4-0 at home in the round of 16 of the DFB-Pokal earlier this year. Bayern head coach Thomas Tuchel will be returning to face his former club, having taken charge of FSV during Bo Svensson’s time as a player.

1. FC Union Berlin

Leipzig in town for penultimate home clash

Union conceded the three points at Deutsche Bank Park to Evan N’dicka’s header in the 94th minute as Eintracht Frankfurt ran out 2-1 winners. Max Kruse’s penalty in the second half brought Union into proceedings after a difficult 45 minutes where Oliver Glasner’s side took the lead through Djibril Sow’s long-range effort. Three days after the victory in Israel, Union faced an in-form Frankfurt side with the opportunity to move into the top four. But Glasner’s side were on top and Rafael Borre’s goal was cancelled out for offside by referee Sascha Stegemann. Sow scored after 22 minutes and the Eagles could have added more by the end of the half. Urs Fischer’s team battled back with a strong second-half showing, Max Kruse sliding home the spot kick from 12 yards after Taiwo Awoniyi was fouled in the box. Goncalo Paciencia was introduced and Frankfurt put Union’s penalty box under pressure for the last 20 minutes. He missed a chance to win the game himself after 90 minutes but eventually Union cracked as N’Dicka headed in from eight yards to take all three points.
