It was a bitter Saturday evening for SV Werder. After a poor first half at home to TSG Hoffenheim, the Green-Whites fought back in the second half and created countless chances in the final minutes, which resulted in Jens Stage scoring the team’s second equaliser of the game. The Werder celebrations were short-lived, however, as Marius Bülter secured a 3-2 win for Hoffenheim less than two minutes later. The general consensus from the hosts after the game was that it “simply cannot happen”. We’ve rounded up the reaction to the defeat.

The home fixtures against VfL Wolfsburg (28th October, 15:30 CEST) and TSG Hoffenheim (11th November, 15:30 CET), as well as the away clashes against 1. FC Köln (4th November, 15:30 CET) and 1. FC Union Berlin (25th November, 15:30 CET) will all take place on a Saturday. FCA will then welcome Eintracht Frankfurt to the WWK Arena on Sunday, 3rd December (19:30 CET).

In Márton Dárdai and Jessic Ngankam, Hertha have two players called up to the Germany U21s provisional squad for the U21s EUROs. Antonio Di Salvo has called up an initial 26 players, including goalkeepers, on 14th June he will the have to slim the squad down by three players. “We have worked together towards this tournament with the players, coaching staff and backroom staff for two years, the anticipation is enormous,” said Di Salvo ahead of his first U21 EUROs as head coach. “Now it is about getting the team into as good condition as possible step by step and over lots of training sessions, which I am unbelievably looking forward to,” explained the 43-year-old.

Tickets for the match against Bayer 04 Leverkusen (Matchday 10) have been on sale to members since Wednesday (14:00 CET). Each TSG member can purchase up to eight tickets for the Saturday game (4 November, 15:30 CET).

Andre Vilk’s U19s have prepared for the new league season with tough matches against Hertha, Bayern Nürnberg, 1860 and Energie Cottbus. Union beat local rivals Hertha 4-2 and managed to fight for a 1-1 draw at Nürnberg. The strong academy team of 1860 won 2-1 during the pre-season camp in Austria before they headed for the red side of Munich. Union put in a strong performance, but ultimately went down 3-5 to Bayern. The last outing saw Union draw 2-2 with Cottbus.

It happened in 2021 with Ben White. It happened last summer with Marc Cucurella. It happened in January with Moises Caicedo. And it is expected to happen with several stars at the end of the season.
