TSG Hoffenheim

Grillitsch nominated for the “Goal of the Month”

“You normally only score a goal like that once in your life,” said Florian Grillitsch after the 3-1 victory away to 1. FC Köln. FC goalkeeper Marvin Schwäbe had ventured a long way off his line to charge down Maximilian Beier but his clearance went straight to the feet of Florian Grillitsch, who pulled the trigger from just behind the halfway line. A wonderful goal – which has now been nominated as the September Goal of the Month by ARD-Sportschau. Grillitsch could become the second TSG player to score the Goal of the Month. The only previous award winner for Hoffenheim was Serge Gnabry, who also found the net from the halfway line against RB Leipzig in in December 2017.

SV Werder Bremen

Werder’s late fightback isn’t enough

A chaotic end to Saturday night’s clash with TSG Hoffenheim saw SV Werder Bremen defeated 3-2. The visitors took charge of the first half and deservedly went into the break with a two-goal lead thanks to Beier (8’) and Prömel (29’). Schmid had provided a glimmer of hope for the Green-Whites after putting them level in the 17th minute, but the home side were unable to turn the tide in their favour in the first half. With time running out, Werder were able to produce a late rally and Stage levelled the match once again with a spectacular finish (90+1’). The joy was short-lived, however, as Bülter quickly scored a third for the away side (90+2’) to put the game to bed, leaving the Green-Whites with nothing to show for their hard work.
