1. FSV Mainz 05

Last-gasp Lee header gives Mainz dramatic win in Augsburg

It’s two wins from two on the road this season! For the first time since 2016, the Zerofivers are coming away from Augsburg with all three points after a dramatic 2-1 victory at the WWK-Arena. Karim Onisiwo gave Mainz the lead midway through the first half, before Ermedin Demirovic leveled for the hosts just a few moments later. Around the hour mark, Mainz had the chance to retake the lead from twelve yards, but Aarón’s penalty was saved. It looked as though Svensson’s side would have to settle for a point, until Jae-Sung Lee scored a last minute header to send the travelling support into raptures.

Borussia Dortmund

“Still a long way from achieving our objectives”

Edin Terzic on the balance of play:
“After the highlight in midweek, it was important to start the match well. We didn’t manage that. We had a lot of unnecessary losses of possession in the middle and then switched it around in our build-up play with one additional player in the middle. As a result, we took control of the match and went in 2-0 up at the break. We then addressed several things we wanted to do better, but we didn’t start the second half well and conceded after a minute as we did not go into the tackles with the same toughness as we have recently, as we didn’t want to contest the important challenges and prevent the counter-attacks. That was significantly better in our previous matches. We then suddenly pulled ourselves together and gained a much better foothold in the game again. The win was important and it was also deserved in my opinion.”
