Daily Schmankerl: Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne wary of Bayern Munich despite massive advantage; Mancheste…

Bayern Munich will face a seemingly insurmountable deficit against Manchester City in the Champions League, but Citizens star Kevin De Bruyne is not about to take the Bavarians for granted.

TSG Hoffenheim

In good hands

A sliding tackle, a scream, a face contorted in pain; Mandana Scharei is ready to jump up and rush onto the pitch. She has the impulse to help immediately. But she has to wait. Only when the TSG player can’t get to his feet on his own and she is asked to act is Scharei allowed to step onto the pitch together with the team doctor. Receive the all-clear, sprint onto the pitch, provide first aid: this has long been part of everyday life for the 46-year-old, even if she is used to faster procedures from her previous work. “I used to work in rugby, where the physiotherapists run along the sidelines and are allowed straight onto the pitch if something happens.” But the important thing in both sports is to “look closely at the situation. Of course, if something happens, I want to have seen it live so that I can assess whether it’s serious or just a minor injury.” Scharei has developed a good eye for this – not only for injuries in matches, but also on the training pitch.

Arteta leaving Arsenal? Man Utd legend claims Gunners will soon ‘be coachless’ – ‘I heard something’

The ex-Man City assistant has previously lifted the FA Cup as Arsenal boss and his achievements this season have understandably caught the attention of clubs around Europe.

Borussia Dortmund

“A narrow but highly deserved victory”

Sebastian Kehl (in the mixed zone): “It was a comfortable victory apart from a period of 10 to 15 minutes in the first half. We were missing a second or third goal, which would have brought more enthusiasm. We had enough chances to score to kill it off earlier. Fundamentally, I’m very satisfied with the performance. I saw good performances from several lads. I would’ve liked for Felix Nmecha for example to get a goal. He was very close and has undergone a really good development. Now you can understood why we absolutely wanted to have this player.”

SV Werder Bremen

“I’m fit and ready to play!”

After a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to a knee injury, Milos Veljkovic returned to action last weekend, playing half an hour of the Green-Whites’ matchday 25 clash against Borussia Dortmund. “It’s the first time in my career that I was out injured for a long time. I’m happy to be fit again,” remarked Werder’s number 13 in the mixed zone on Wednesday.

Transfer Update: Bayern Munich stepping up pursuit of SSC Napoli’s Victor Osimhen

Bayern is just one club in a long list of clubs across Europe eager to get Osimhen’s signature. He’s having an incredible season with Napoli, having already scored 25 goals a tallied 5 assists from 30 appearances across all competitions as Napoli are on their way to winning their first Scudetto since the 1989/90 season with Diego Maradona. He would likely cost Bayern, or whoever buys him, upwards of €100.00m, as his current contract with Napoli runs through June 2025.
