Tottenham interim boss Ryan Mason refused to “sum up” Harry Kane’s time at Spurs while he is still at the Premier League cluib.

The England international looks fairly likely to leave Tottenham in the summer transfer window with the striker about to enter the final year of his contract.

Manchester United have taken the most interest in his situation with reports last month insisting that Erik ten Hag was now ‘sold’ on making him their top transfer target this summer.

However, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy reportedly has no interest in selling to a Premier League club, especially Man Utd, .

When asked to “sum up” Kane’s time at Tottenham, that has yielded zero trophies, Mason replied: “I cannot sum it up because he is still our player. When you sum something up it is a closed chapter, that is certainly not the case.

“But for any player or manager, when one leaves it is important to have a succession plan in place so the next one comes in and the impact is not so bad. That’s not just about Harry.

“In two, 10, 20 years time Tottenham Hotspur will still be here. Players, staff and managers will come in and out but it is important that there is a real identity across all departments.”

Antonio Conte was replaced earlier this year by his assistant Cristian Stellini following a controversial press conference post-Southampton but Stellini was sacked not long after.

Mason is now in charge until the end of the season and the former midfielder claims there has been no negative impact from the uncertainty since Conte left.

The Tottenham interim boss added: “The results before Antonio Conte left weren’t amazing so I don’t think they have dipped a huge amount. You could feel the weeks leading up to that, there was uncertainty.

“One of my main things coming in was to try and create a togetherness and make us feel part of something, lay some foundations to build where we want and expect this football club to look like and play like in the future.”

When asked if Tottenham are still an attractive proposition for players and managers, Mason replied: “Absolutely, yes. It’s history. It is Tottenham Hotspur, a big club. Not just for managers, for staff, players, anyone here should feel the privilege and honour of wearing this badge and if they don’t they shouldn’t be here.”
