Dwight Yorke claims Man Utd winger Jadon Sancho is on “borrowed time” at Old Trafford as the England international hasn’t “lived up to the price tag”.

The Red Devils bought Sancho from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 in a deal worth £73m but the 23-year-old has failed to live up to expectations during his two seasons at the club.

Sancho has slightly improved his output this term in the Premier League with seven goals contributions in 24 matches, compared to six in 29 appearances last term.

And former striker Yorke insists Sancho’s time at Man Utd “hasn’t really worked out” and now thinks the England international is unlikely to succeed at Old Trafford.

Yorke told the Daily Mirror: “Yeah, it’s one of a mystery, really. He had so much potential and hope for the likes of Manchester United. Huge investment, really did an amazing job when he was at Dortmund.

“Somehow the transition from there to Manchester hasn’t really worked out in the way that we all thought it might for him. Really struggled, whether it’s from a mental point of view, which seems to be well documented. He hasn’t really really lived up to the price tag.

“So yeah, he’s on borrowed time, I suppose, if you have to be fair in many respects. He hasn’t really produced the goods that we expect him.”

Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag revealed just before the end of the World Cup that Sancho was training alone after sitting out their training camp in Spain over the winter period.

Ten Hag said: “We want to bring him back as quickly as possible, but I can’t give a prognosis of when that will be.

“Sometimes there are circumstances with fitness and mood. We got a drop of quality level and sometimes you don’t know why or what is causing it.

“That is what we are doing now to try to get him back there. It is a combination of physical and mental.”

Former Man Utd centre-back Rio Ferdinand reckons the only way Sancho leaves the club is if the Red Devils accept a loan deal in the summer market.

“If someone says, ‘we think you are worth half,’ the way he has been playing, he isn’t going nowhere. He isn’t moving. [A] loan, maybe.”
