Napoli are reportedly unwilling to pay €30million to sign Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele at the end of the season.

The French midfielder joined the Serie A side on a season-long loan last summer.

, though Napoli paying that fee always seemed unrealistic unless the player rediscovered his Lyon form.

There were not too many high hopes for Ndombele when he relocated to Italy and there was always a feeling he would be stuck in a less-than-ideal situation come the end of this season.

At least the 2022-23 campaign has been one to remember for the France international.

Ndombele has not been a regular starter under Luciano Spaletti but has managed 40 appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing one assist in the process.

Napoli’s campaign has been absolutely outstanding and Ndombele will be happy to be a part of history after they won their first Serie A title since the Diego Maradona days in 1990.

Having started 12 games all season, it is no surprise whatsoever that Napoli are not keen to trigger the €30m buy option for the 26-year-old.

There are not many reports about the midfielder’s long-term future, with a return to Tottenham looking inevitable.

However, we have got a bit of insight from Corriere della Sera (via Sport Witness) on Friday.

The Italian outlet did a round-up of the Napoli squad, with Ndombele included.

Ndombele is praised for being ‘reliable’ and ‘professional’, while he showed a ‘strong physical presence’ on the pitch.

Despite being ‘generally good’ and a ‘convenient replacement’ for Spaletti’s first-choice midfielders, the €30m price is deemed ‘crazy’.

If the asking price was a little less, the Naples outfit would see Ndombele as ‘certainly redeemable’ and could have signed him on a permanent basis.

This story hints that Ndombele will return to Spurs, unless they lower their demands.

It is hard to imagine the Frenchman having much of a future at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium unless the club’s next manager surprisingly loves him as a player.

Speaking of which, ex-Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann remains linked with the job, .
