“We’re pleased the Michael has decided to continue his journey at Werder Bremen. Zetti has developed really well and is also important for the team off the pitch. He will be heading into his tenth season at Werder in the summer. That’s a long time, which wasn’t always easy for him due to a few injuries. However, he always stayed positive and never lost sight of his goal. This has paid off for him,” explained Clemens Fritz.
Goalkeeping coach Christian Vander is also pleased about the prospect of continuing to work together: “He’s earned this contract extension with his good performances. You can see that Zetti benefits the team with his qualities – even in attack. Despite a few setbacks in his career, he has always been convinced of his path, has constantly improved and still has further potential. It’s great that he will remain part of Werder.”
“After so many years at this club, I’m both happy and proud to have signed a long-term contract extension at Werder Bremen as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper and to be able to continue giving everything to help Werder achieve our goals in the Bundesliga over the coming years. Thank you to everyone involved and to the fans for their incredible support over the last weeks and months. We’ll see each other soon at the wohninvest WESERSTADION,” said Zetterer.
Michael Zetterer moved to Bremen from SpVgg Unterhaching in January 2015. The 28-year-old was then loaned to SK Austria Klagenfurt and PEC Zwolle, before returning to SVW. He has made a total of 26 Bundesliga appearances for the Green-Whites, as well as featuring 11 times in the 2. Bundesliga. Zetterer also played for Werder’s U23s in the 3. Liga (23 games) and Regionalliga Nord (7).
