The reigning top scorer in the Bundesliga will be playing in Black and Yellow from now on: Niclas Füllkrug, 30, has made the move from Werder Bremen to BVB. The Germany international striker completed his medical in Dortmund today and this afternoon signed a contract that runs up to 30 June 2026.
“Niclas has proved his goal threat for years and was the top scorer in the league last season. Thanks to his strong performances, he has quite rightly become an important pillar in the centre of the national team’s attack. Niclas is an attacking play-maker, very strong in the air and has a great physical presence. He is impressive in one-on-one situations and is nightmare for his opponents in duels. With all these skills, he perfectly embodies the profile we were looking for,” said BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl, adding: “Niclas can’t wait to take on the challenge at Borussia Dortmund. We look forward to welcoming this positive guy who will run through fire for our club. BVB have ambitious goals in all three competitions, and we are convinced that Niclas will make us even stronger.”
Füllkrug, born in Hanover, was directly involved in 21 goals (16 goals, 5 assists) in 28 league games last season – the third-best return in the top division. He has a knack for scoring important goals, opening the scoring 7 times in 2022/23 and finding the back of the net 8 times in the final quarter of an hour. On average, Niclas Füllkrug has hit the back of the net in every third Bundesliga match (128 Bundesliga matches, 44 goals) across his career. The 6’2″ centre-forward has scored 7 goals in 9 games for the German national team, including the equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Spain at the World Cup in Qatar.
Niclas Füllkrug said: “Borussia Dortmund are a very special club. I was very pleased with the offer, because taking the step to this club is exactly what I wanted. At BVB, I have the chance to develop as a player and gain new experience. I’m dying to take on the challenges ahead of me and I want to be as successful as possible with this team. I can’t wait to experience the stadium with its incredible fans as a BVB player.”
