Isak Hansen-Aarøen left his home city of Tromsø at just 16 to further his career at Manchester United. Playing for the Red Devils’ U21 team in the Premier League 2, the Norwegian made 43 appearances and scored five goals. “I feel ready to make the next step into senior football,” said the attacking midfielder. “I want to show the club and the fans that I’m a good footballer.”

When he’s not on the pitch, he likes to switch off. Aside from football, Hansen-Aarøen enjoys playing golf. His love of tattoos is one of the first things you notice about him; he likes the aesthetics of most of them, but some of them also have a personal meaning. Werder’s new number 21 is also well aware of his compatriot Rune Bratseth’s long and storied history with the club. “Unfortunately I haven’t spoken with him yet,” he says, smiling. “Obviously it would be great if I could achieve something similar to him. But I’m not thinking about that – I just want to learn from the lads and do the best job I can.”

The winter signing followed Werder’s 1-0 win over Mainz from his hotel room. He praises the form the team are currently in. His conversations with his teammates will without a doubt have told him it wasn’t the side’s best game, but the most important thing is the result. The teenager wants to help add to Werder’s points tally in the coming weeks. “I’d say I’m ready,” says Hansen-Aarøen. “I’ll do my best in every training session and then the decision is up to the coach. If I get the chance, I’m ready to use it.”
