After three and a half years at BVB, midfielder Emre Can has prematurely extended his contract until 2026. After putting pen to paper, he spoke with us about his motives and his objectives.

Why did you decide to extend with BVB?
“I feel very comfortable here in Dortmund. I have definitely arrived in the past few months and have shown what I expect from myself and what the people here expect from me. Dortmund and I are a good fit for each other. That’s why I still want to play here for several more years.”

You’ve been here for three and a half years. How has your role in the team changed?
“When I arrived, I wasn’t one of the oldest. I needed to perform, otherwise nothing was possible. Now the boys listen to me when I have something to say.”

Did we already see the best Emre Can in the second half of the season or can the BVB fans look forward to an even better version?
“I always expect a lot from myself and set the bar very high. I must work well in pre-season and it must be my benchmark to play like I did in the second half of the season or even better. I can always do better. I hope that I’ll be able to show that in the future.”

What are your objectives?
“I want to work well and stay healthy. The rest will happen by itself.”
