Julian Hettwer is joining the Borussia Dortmund U23s from league rivals MSV Duisburg. The 20-year-old is penning a long-term contract with the Black & Yellows.

Following spells in the VfL Bochum and Schalke 04 youth set-ups, Hettwer moved to the MSV Duisburg U17s in the summer of 2018. He made his third-tier debut for the Zebras’ senior team in November 2020.

The 1.84-metre-tall striker has since scored seven goals and notched just as many assists across 60 third-division appearances. Hettwer scored five of his seven 3. Liga goals in total since January. In November 2021, Hettwer made his first appearance for the Germany U19 national team against Greece.

“I’m delighted that Julian will be travelling with us to the training camp and we can integrate him straightaway. He is the piece of the puzzle we’ve been missing offensively,” explained U23 coach Jan Zimmermann.

“Julian is a very interesting, young and developable striker whom we’ve been monitoring for a long time,” sporting director Ingo Preuß said.
